SAFETY LAMP
Also known as "bug light" or flame lamp, these were used to test for methane gas (a dangerous, explosive gas)-- which would cause the flame to "lift", or tested for "black damp" (which would cause the flame to go out). Our Coalport Coal Museum has a Wolf Frame Safety Lamp.
