COMBINATION POWDER JUG AND SQUIB BOX
Squib - "detonator" / fuse used to put off the black powder (loose or stick) Powder Jug - Used for carrying explosives into the mines Miners carried their own explosive black powder into the mines in safety jugs designed to insulate it from sparks and other sources of ignition. Black powder is used to pack into holes into coal seams, and when ignited using squibs (after yelling, "Fire in the hole!"), it would remove a seam at a time that would then have to shoveled by hand into mining cars--separating good coal from rock and other material.
